Middlefield Cultural Exchange

On Thursday December 11, approximately sixty Markham District High School students attended the first ever Cultural Exchange Day kindly hosted by students from Middlefield Collegiate Institute. The purpose of this day was to unite students from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, and to share and celebrate traditions and perspectives from around the world.

Middlefield students graciously hosted workshops ranging from Chinese calligraphy, Caribbean celebrations and Sri Lankan dress, to world music and break dancing (just to name a few). For lunch, parents of Middlefield students kindly prepared home cooked meals from their respective cultures. The day culminated in a Trinidadian-style limbo, emphasizing the day's theme of unity in diversity.

Thanks to all Middlefield and Markham District students who attended the event. Any students or staff interested in organizing a MDHS cultural exchange for Middlefield students later this year, please talk to Mr. Fife.
